“To help inspire the nation and encourage them to rewild their curiosity, Hendrick’s Gin has unveiled its enchanting ‘Curious Idols’ on London’s South Bank, created in collaboration with the talented contemporary artist Elliott Rooney. The installation sees 3 delightful, theatrical pieces of art come to life, immortalising the incredible curious thinkers who are shaping this century & can excite us all to explore, discover and create.”
This sculpture was dedicated to Alice Vincent & her love for gardening on her small London balcony inspired her book ‘Why Women Grow,’ which aimed to amplify the voices of marginalised women throughout history. To honour Alice, her skills as an author & her story, I wanted to create a sculpture with various pages that would replicate a book. I felt it was really important for Alice to be at the center of the book, her face & her story.
The idea was for the viewer to be able to see through the entire sculpture and see the sights of London and the view of the southbank. Paying homage to the city and the urban environment. The sculpture looking different from each angle.
In Between each page flowers bloom, casting shadows and creating various silhouettes against the large perspex layers. All the flowers in each sculpture were chosen for their pollinating properties, planted and arranged by the amazing @l_aura__peacock @chou_rouge_creative
